Is composite decking worth the extra cost?

Composite decking has become very popular over the last few years with sales exploding and the range of decking boards increasing all the time. But is it worth the extra cost?
It all depends on how much you wish to spend on your outside living space. Composite decking will always be more expensive than traditional wood decking, however, if you look at the cost over 5 or more years, it starts to make more sense. One of the biggest advantages composite decking has over wood is that it requires virtually no maintenance.  With wood decking, you have to stain it each year to ensure the wood is sealed. Composite decking does not require this with at most a wipe down every year. Also, the plastic or composite decking is more slip-resistant and does not splinter.

Which composite decking should you choose

This depends a lot on the style and colour you want.  One downside of composite decking other than the high price is that it can get very hot when exposed to direct sunlight. If you opt for dark colours this makes it much worse, so if you are planning a composite deck with no trees or buildings for shade, then it will pay to go for a lighter colour. Eco composite decking offers a wide range of decking products that are marketed as eco-friendly and are proving very popular.

The decking you finally choose will come down to the price and the reviews of the different products. To find out more about the different types of decking try composite decking reviews which will list all the main manufacturers with reviews of their products.
